Anyone who saw them would think they´ve been together all of their lives. The air of trust, the gestures of complicity, of that which only happens between family and people who we know so well. Maria de la Pau Janer and Isabel Guarch went to school together (the Teresianas de Palma, Pedro Poveda today). Times in which the birthday parties were held at home and became the social event of the girls of that age; in which our characters are defining us and we begin to glimpse the path of our vocation.
At the time, Maria de la Pau Janer, a recognized writer both in Catalan as well as in Spanish and winner of numerous awards, among them The Planet (2005) for her novel "Roman passions", as well as a communicator with a long and successful career in the media, especially television and is currently the host of "Les mil i a nits" Catalunya Ràdio, already highlighted clearly in the school for being the best in class of literature; a girl who felt comfortable and integrated into the group and that, already by then had written her first plays. Isabel was, in the words of the very own Maria de la Pau, the prettiest girl, to which they all consulted for aesthetic issues and who was viewed as a leader when it comes to organizing things. MPJ: It's funny, but I remember that, already back then, I was asking you things like: Isabel, do lilac and pink go together? Now it seems obvious but then... imagine what I can remember. In addition, all of us idiolizing your mother; a strong and enterprising woman who brought out love in all. IG: And I to yours. You always look at the opposite of what you have at home. It took years to appreciate all those qualities that others saw in my mother. She became my mentor, my professional and lifestyle reference. I imagine that there are stages and at each different stage the references you are looking for. MPJ: the legacy of passion, your mother and my father, means that we did not have to start from zero. IG: Do you know what I remember? the study room that you had in your house and that, in fact, it served as an inspiration to create a similar space for reading and working for everyone in my house. MPJ: My house was full of artists: painters, sculptors, writers but I saw it as perfectly normal. Over the years you realize how everything that you've seen living at home always influences you. My parents raised me to recognize the beauty and value of everything. A culture of beauty that improves your life and seperates you from mediocrity. In fact, jewelry, is an art, isn't it?
Breakfast took place in the open local, the Bonaire street of Palma, by Lluisperez, the young pastry chef who has spent part of his career at the orders of Oriol Balaguer. Now, in his own premises, still improving, not only his excellent talent for confectionery and chocolate , but his artistic side for both sweet and savory. An oasis of peace in the centre of the city. Clean lines and clear Mediterranean references. A sort of connection of Paris-Palma, where the local elements intersect with delicacies that could well be Parisian and everything seems to fit. Touches of blue and green, roba de llengües (the colourful unique Mallorcan fabric), plants and cactuses arranged as a checkerboard on the wall and a beautiful desk made of white marble, that all the delicacies are placed on, as if they were pieces of jewelry. In that scenario, full of references, we photograph 3 great professionals that unite, in addition to the mutual admiration, the quest for beauty in their respective professions. Breakfast is coming to an end and Maria de la Pau, as good storytellers do, knows just how to put the finishing touches with a headline. "Isabel is a woman with exquisite taste, a creative capacity and a modern vision of the jewelry. You see jewelry as an art and you are looking for, in some way, beauty". Certainly, much has happened since those days of childhood that we have briefly recalled by the hand of its two protagonists. But there are key moments in life that always seem to present themselves; feelings that you don't forget and friends that no matter how many years pass, make it always seem like it was only yesterday.
